I do not claim credit for any of the AotW thread, that honor goes to the original authors from the en-forums on Rackham's old website.
This one is from forum member Kainthedragoonx:
Army of the whatever: Wolfen
NOTE: Focus on the Word...not the avatar...I know you can do it! Smile
Ok ok, so I am a little behind with this. So I apologize…this thing ended up being 15ish pages long, and work is kicking my ass! Anyway, listen up, I am doing something different. I am only telling you what I think about the models. I am not going to give you all the tricks of the trade…the best way to learn the army is to play it and find out what you like. I have been playing Wolfen now for about three years, so I am not a master of them yet! Anyway, I have some tourney experience, and I will only share ONE list with you, the list I used at Dayton.
Now with those meat and potatoes...
Wolfen
Wolfen have an extremely unique method of play. Press hard and dart in and out of combat. Overall, Wolfen have a pretty awesome INI (Average of 4) and awesome strength (average of 9 or 10.) The best way they work is as exactly as a wolf pack…finds the weakest link and presses the attack.
Wolfen Strength
High attack, high strength, above average Initiative, high movement, Born Killer, Fear! Best faithful in the game…hands down (at least at this moment)
Wolfen Weakness
Low Defense, low Resilience, low numbers, not much in the magic department, Low Discipline
So let’s have one little discussion…In Confrontation’s recient history, it seems that the Wolfen have gotten a bad rap. It seems that you only see Predators of Blood and Sentinels on the table. I have to say that there are a LOT of options available for these guys, and it is a shame that so many of these figs are ignored because people do not want to actually have to think about the game. It’s sad, and I hope I present some information here that will help my fellow Wolfen players think about something a little better than just 2 Preds, 2 Sentinels, Syriak 2nd, and cheap Warriors for a list.
A few words before we start on about the sweetness of Wolfen: I refer to and include Wolfen Warriors in the Fang/Great Fang names. In my book, the 25 AP Warriors are Fangs, and the 32 AP Warriors are Great Fangs. Deal with it Razz
Now my “Personal Ranking” and how it works. It’s a five point scale that basically rates now I feel about a certain model. A 1 is a model that is never taken, totally ignored when building army lists and I only own because I am addicted to the game. A 5 is a model that I look at and say to myself “He must be in the army!” These guys go first when picking my lists, and I normally go to these figs when I am trying to fill points.
Now do the troops:
Wolfen Irregulars
Wolfen Repentant
Not worth the points in my book. You lose a bunch and only gain fear and devotion; these guys are just not worth the points…EVER.
Personal Ranking: 1
Repentant Great Fang
Still just not worth the points…I am not down with the pariah stuff, and if I am, I will just play Devourers.
Personal Ranking: 1
Mourning Repentant
Now we are talking! For 35 AP for Brutal and Master Strike/1, these guys can toss in a punch and can really do some damage! Master Strike + Born Killer are really an awesome combination, and these guys actually have a little boost in the defense department! Finally a Profile that gives a little use to my Repentant models! Laughing
Personal Ranking 3
Wolfen Regulars
Wolfen Hunters (1, 2, 3)
When I talk about Wolfen Hunters, I ONLY refer to #3. The other guys are not worth talking about at all.
At 25 points, the Hunters are awesome for what they do. Let’s compare them to a 25 AP Fang: higher movement, better Initiative, but a little less in the hitting department. These guys are great assistance troops, and are awesome for claiming or denying your opponent a objective. Their 35 cm run really gets them were they need to go. My primary use for these guys is to assist in combat, basically jumping into a fight along with a Wolfen Fang/Great Fang where possible. I will also use these guys to tie down low cost opponents…so the meaty Wolfen do not end up on the wrong end of a gang-rape!
They cannot really take a hit at all, but most wolfen cannot, so they are not any different than the rest of their pack mates.
My personal ranking: 3.5
Wolfen Hunter # 4
See above, but with a little shooty action. There is nothing wrong with a fig that can move as much as a hunter AND toss a javelin into some fool that doesn’t know what time it was (a little Mr. T just for JG!)
However, they are expensive and unless I am running a jank list, I will skip on these guys.
Personal Ranking: 3
Howling Hunter
If you are going to take these guys…really think about Hunter #4. They are only two AP more, and are much better. Only useful when fielding the Howling Pack!
Personal Ranking: 2
Fangs
Like all warriors, these little bastards are fast, and hit you hard in the face. There is little that can stand up to a Fang in one on one combat, and I’ve seen these dudes drop guys 3 times their points. Strength 9 is just too good to pass up. It really is! These guys are my bread and my butter when it comes to Wolfen Armies. Now that they are changing the composition of Tourney lists, these guys are getting even better…a Wolfen swarm now that is AWESOME! When I think of the awesomeness that is Wolfen, the first thing that comes to mind is the Fangs. So what if they have a lower Defense and Res…it doesn’t matter when you are hitting first with strength 9 Smile
Personal Ranking: 5
Great Fangs
Just like the Fangs, just with a nice little upgrade. They have an increased attack, strength, resilience, and fear. I am not going to repeat myself, but the Great Fangs work just the same way as the Fangs do. The Strength 10 really goes a long way to shut down models, and the high attack makes these guys great for fighting off the more expensive opponents. Again, they have a weak resilience, so watch the return attacks. You have to make sure they get to toss in an attack before their opponent. Wink Team these guys up with the Hunters and watch models die left and right.
Nomad
The new guys on the block, so to speak. These guys actually have a little bit of Discipline, which is great for Wolfen! The also have a pretty nice attack, but are lacking the strength. It looks to me that these guys are geared towards Dogs of War, but I can see some uses for them…like Discipline!
Personal Ranking: 3
Wolfen with Crossbow 2
A Wolfen that launches Tree-trunks at the enemy? Sign me up! Or at least that is what I thought to myself when I fist looked at the card. Then you REALLY look at the card…Aim of 2? Damn! The usefulness of these guys just dropped. Their saving grace is the fact that they can move great distances and their range is pretty good. Still, you want shooting? Take the Wolfen Sentinel!
Personal Ranking: 2
Wolfen with Crossbow 3
Same as above, but with a little more mobility and shooting goodness gained from Harrassment. Still not as good as the sentinel, but I have found some uses for him.
Personal Ranking: 3
Wolfen Special
Grave Guardian 1
Sweet mother of mercy! Forty one AP for a Wolfen with Leap and totally immune to fear? Awesome! Because they are large, these Wolfen and leap over enemies to get to the meat and potatoes of the opponent. Got a Spell caster that is in the way? A Grave Guardian is great for that. These guys also get War Fury against Goblins, Drunes, Dirz, and Undead. War Fury and Strength 9 huh? Sounds like it’s all about taking the opponent’s Weak troops out in a heartbeat! Basically these guys are awesome Wolfen utility men, and are great for the points!
Personal Ranking: 3.5
Grave Guardian 2
These guys have the same uses as the Guardian above but toss in Counter-Attack. I normally go with these guys instead of Guardian #1 when possible as their +1 defense is worth the points to me. They are used for the same things as Guardian #1, and I just think they are awesome!
Personal Ranking: 4
Shadow Tracker
The Shadow Tracker has a great movement, pretty good stats and the ability to Scout! Now that is pretty sweet if you ask me. These guys have pretty good attack and strength, and a decient defense and resilience (for Wolfen.) Team him up with a Prowler and watch as your opponent’s army divides and leaves itself weak. To be quite honest I use these guys as suicide bombers. I will scout them in and charge something I really do not like, say a Lion Knight. Aything to hold down a fig or a model and possibly giving said model a wound or two. Or, toss them at a weak model in the back ranks and gut someone. I like these guys, and have some success with them!
Personal Ranking: 3.5
Vestals
The Vestal…the poor under-used Vestal! I honestly have never seen anyone else but myself play with these girls. About the only thing they have going for them is that they can place their attack and defense dice list, not matter what the Initiative roll is. Of course, they still have to defend first if they lose, but these girls are just not worth the points. Even with the increased movement, they are just not worth the investment. Fangs and Great Fangs are much more useful, and I have to say that they have seen the end of their usefulness with the release of Confrontation 3.
Personal Ranking: 1
Sacred Vestals
Here we have an upgraded Vestal. They have a better defense, a better strength, but still a horrible resilience. They also have Loyal /1, Counter-attack (printed on their special ability card) and the ability to place their dice last, even if they lose the Initiative roll. Better than the Vestal, but still not all that useful in Confrontation 3, they do find some better uses then the Vestal.
Personal Rank: 2
Howling Vestal
Ummm…Unless you are feeling like trying something silly, and are doing the Howling Pack, I would skip this fig. Sacred Vestals are better for the points. I have almost no success with the Howling Pack, so I don’t really like these girls. This is not the Wolfen your looking for…
Personal Ranking: 1
Prowler
Now we are talking about some coolness. The model is awesome, and the stats are pretty sweet as well. You get a strength 7 crossbow, the ability to place traps, the ability to apprentice Hunters, and pretty good stats for the points. Not the best in close combat, these guys are great for scouting into the middle of the battle field and start placing traps here and there to control your opponent’s movements. I have had great success with these guys, and their primary (and really the only) use for these guys is the gorilla assault tactic. Still, there are plenty of uses for Vietnam style combat tactics, so I give these guys a pretty nice ranking!
Personal Ranking: 4
Elite
Predators (non-Blood style)
Ok ok, so I am totally against relying totally on Predators of Blood to win. However, that being said, the other versions of the Predators are really just not worth the points if you are going to take any of the Predators. The only time I take these guys over the Predators of Blood is when I only have 55/50 points instead of 58 points and cannot spare the extra points. When I look at them, I normally look at the Predator with Great Blade for the extra strength. But that being said…the PoB have Hardboiled…for 3 more points…still, they hit hard, and were the heavy hitters back in the day…and I have a soft spot in my heart for these little ass kickers. What to shock your opponent…take these guys instead of the Predators of Blood. Wink
Personal Ranking: 3
Predators of Blood
So now we come to the Predators of Blood. I curse the day these models came out. Now you have suckers everywhere running around playing Wolfen lists with two of these guys and Syriak claiming they are awesome players. These Models have ruined the play style of the Wolfen, allowing players to forget the hit and run tactics for the standard charge across the board with the PoBs and not have to think about the game. Are these guys good? Yes of course! Do they fit the play style of the Wolfen? No…not really. When I am extremely tired of thinking and want a list that is easy to play…I will play with Predators of Blood.
That being said, I think the Predators of Blood are good for one thing: Getting newbies into Wolfen. For the same reasons mentioned above, the Predators can be used to allow new players to get a feel for how the Wolfen work without getting completely ruined. Still, if you a good Wolfen player, you do not need Predators of Blood to win games. The facts are as simple as that.
Personal Ranking: 3
Ultimate Predator
See above…
Personal Ranking: 3
Mages
She Wolf of Ice
A 60 ap warrior-mage with a power of two huh? Normally I would say “Heck No!”, even for a Wolfen…but her special ability is pretty damn nice! Let’s face it…you are probably only ever going to use her in a “Path of Opal” themed list, so her ability treats a 5 as a 6 and allows to be rerolled. It’s better than Survival Instinct (at least to me) and is pretty damn nice all around. I never even take spells with her, I just use the Gems to cancel damage rolls. Sure, she can have some pretty nifty spells as a Power 2 mage is pretty buff for a Wolfen…but her huge draw back is the point cost. She is pretty damn expensive, and you are going to run into times when the damage prevention just is not going to be worth it. That being said, she should be used to team up when possible to make sure you get those kills in when needed and prevent the damage rolls.
Personal Ranking: 3
Solitaire Selenite
Ahhh…the Wolfen mage from the Warriors of Rag card pack! Pretty good stats, the Selenite ability (which is awesome…or suck depending on what you roll Wink ) and a pretty nice spell list (for Wolfen) but again pretty damn pricey for what they do. Unfortunately the Wolfen mage selection is really not all that great, and without the water elemental the Wolfen players have to suffer a bit, but sometimes the magic can still useful at times. Heh…if Chemist1981 was still around, he would slap me for questioning the awesomeness of Wolfen Magic…but he is not, so I get to say what I want without fear Wink
Anyway, I have had some minor success with Wolfen magic, but that was in C2, so I am not a huge fan of it…sorry Chemist!
Personal Ranking: 2
Lone Wolf 1/2
So we have the Lone Wolves…the Original Wolfen Spell Casters. Joy for Power 1 mages! Honestly, unless you have some uber-tech ninja magic going down, these puppies are pretty much worthless. 40 AP can be better spent on other stuff. Non-Character Wolfen Magic is just not that great! Maybe the magic will get better in the future, but I doubt it, and that is ok because Wolfen are faith based, so their faithful should be better than their mages anyway!
Personal Ranking: 2
Faithful
Guardian of the Runes
C is for Cookies and Cookies are for me! The legendary Cookie monster! Unfortunately he has seen better days. Pretty darn expensive for the points, the Guardian’s only real strength is his ability to hand out a two point bonus to Resilience to any one model within his aura of faith. The Guardian has a pretty average aspect level, with a total of 2, one in Creation and one in Destruction, so he is able to call some of the weaker miracles without issue. The main problem with him is that because of the play style of Wolfen, it is hard to get enough TF to get the job done with these guys. That being said, I really like the miracles that come with the fig…especially “Yllia’s Breastplate.” Not as good as the Nexus, but still…can be useful. The Blind Omen is pretty awesome too IF you roll well Wink Anyway, I love my Cookie Monster, and he regularly sees table time when I am playing Wolfen. Just if he was a little cheaper! Very Happy!
Ok…I think I have covered all the troops…DAMN! There is plenty of them…
Now to characters:
Characters
Agyar the Unyielding
Hot damn! A Wolfen with a high resilience! Sweet deal! Add in his magical armor and you have a Wolfen that can actually defend pretty awesomely. He also does not have a shabby strength or other stat line, so I like him. All in all, he is a pretty amazing Wolfen character, with a Discipline of 4, authority, and the ability to survive some battles. This Wolfen can really open up the options for the Wolfen player to try out some different ideas. Plus he has a pretty kick ass sculpt as well. The problem I have with him is that he is expensive…but all Wolfen characters are, so you just are going to have to deal with that. Anyway, the leader of the Howling Pack allows the Wolfen player to test out and play some alternative tactical scenarios, so he gets good ratings in my book. His weakness is his low fear for his points, and his lack of interesting abilities.
Personal Ranking: 3.5
Aphorys, Wolfen Repentant
Pah! Another Wolfen Repentant…this time with a name! Anyway, he is a cheap Wolfen character…but do not expect much from this guy. His stat line is on par with a Wolfen Fang (which is about 44 AP cheaper.) Honestly unless I am running some sort of Pariah swarm theme, I am going to stay away from this guy. There is so much else on the market, why settle for the bad apple?
Personal Ranking: 1
Asgarh
Yeah Right! He is never going to see the table in a regular confrontation game. Both versions are hardcore, as they should be! He is the living embodiment of the Savagery of Yllia and the things that go bump in the night. As LL’s go, he is easily in the top 3 if not the best LL in the game. This guy can ruin someone’s life without fail, and with hardened and awesome stats, he is going to kill everything. No questions asked. Once the Water Elemental comes out he will be even better with his Spell casting Banner. Still, he is the best of the best Faction in the game, so of course he is going to rock face. That and he is the reason I play confrontation…or at least started playing.
Personal Ranking: 7 (yes that is a seven…he is that freaking awesome)
Ash’en Tyr
She is the limited Edition Wolfen model. She is basically a Vestal character. She is so-so on the stats, and her artifact is okay as well. I own her, but I have no game experience with her as I do not believe in taking two characters in a Wolfen list…and there is plenty better for the points. Her winning talents are the high initiative and Vivacity, which is nice for the Wolfen. She is a team player, and needs help to win combats, which is tough for a Wolfen as the numbers are never going to be in your favor.
Personal Ranking: 2
Bashkar, Pack Leader
Here is another awesome Wolfen character…for a crap ton of points. He has the ability to stay in the fight for a good long while, and can really ruin people’s day. Unfortunately he is bound to a non-existing pack, and is just too expensive to see the table in the standard 400 AP Confrontation games. When I just want to play around and have a good time I will bust out the big characters and see what happens, and this guys stats are awesome. He has the ability to stay around and fight with hard-boiled and a defense of 6, so he can withstand the fight. Good character with survivability but costly as hell.
Personal Ranking: 3
Irix the Sibyl
Sweet! A Wolfen mage with a power of three…for less than one hundred points! Like most Wolfen mages, the Sibyl is a support caster, and a pretty good one at that. She comes with some pump spells and a damage control spell, which is pretty darn nice if you ask me. Her big weakness is her lack of Warrior-Mage, and her poor stats. Still, if you want a pure Wolfen Mage on the cheap, you have no other choice. You know how I feel about Wolfen magic, and that will probably not change until Rackham releases the Water Elemental.
Personal Ranking: 2
Irix the Fury
Ha! A Wolfen with Fire magic, Howls, and Whispers! Now we are talking. The Fury got herself a nice upgrade with her Second Incarnation, bringing along some pretty awesome spells. She comes with a Fear pumping spell, the Rage of Ibodath, which is a pretty nasty damage spell, and two others. With the addition of fire, the Fury has the ability to add even more pumping spells to the Wolfen lineup as well as some direct damage spells. The additions of Howls allows her access to a bunch more spells, too bad some of them require Devourer models. Still, for 129 points she brings a heavy punch to the Wolfen forces. Too bad she does not have Warrior-Mage. But still, her stats are much better this time around, and she has a better chance of living through a round of combat. When I think about Wolfen magic, Fury is the only way to fly.
Personal Ranking: 4 (when I want Wolfen magic)
Isakar, the Watcher, 2nd incarnation
A Good Wolfen character for less than one hundred points? Sign me up! He has Concentration /2 for Attack, Defense, and Initiative, which I personally think is awesome. With the Charging strength of 15 and Counter Attack written on his card, it is possible for Isakar to wreck a lot of people. Drop the two Concentration points into Defense, and counter attack all day long! Watch as your opponent cries like a girl while you counter attack with that charging strength of fifteen! His major weakness is his inability to do a major sum of damage after the first round of combat. The Strength of Nine is good, but when you have 25 AP models with the same strength, it’s tough for me to be happy with it. Still, I love Isakar, and he took me to the top at Gencon 2004, so he will always have a special spot in my heart.
Personal Ranking: 4
The Watcher
Looking for a cheap Wolfen Character? Look no farther! The Watcher is pretty nice for the cost, and Survival Instinct at least gives him a chance to withstand a wound. Still if you have the AP, I would grab Isakar, as he is better for the buck, but if you need a character on the cheap, the Watcher is not too shabby. He still has the Strength of 15 when he charges, so he can still run with the big boys…but he needs to get in and out of combat quick as he is not much for defending. I have never really used the Lance of Never-ending Sleep, as it cost as much as a Fang. However, if you have the points, and really want to take it, more power to you. It is really useful against fierce models and Sessairs, but outside of that, it’s pretty much worthless. Still I like the Watcher, and I will use him when I am feeling super-gorilla with my tactics.
Kaeliss, 2nd
Kaeliss is a pretty interesting fighter, with Bane/Marksmen. That is pretty interesting, and with the release of some awesome marksmen, he seems pretty awesome. That being said, he is pretty weak when it comes to combat, and when I play Wolfen, I want characters that can hand out a beating. To me he falls into the character support category. Sure, if we where playing a 500 points game I would be interested in taking him, but it is just too hard to get two Wolfen Characters into a 400 point list. Still, Kaeliss has his uses and can really case a problem against a low resilience army. His ability to Scout and assassinate the enemy shooters cannot be overlooked, just don’t expect him to be killing Huntsmen. You cannot go wrong with Scouting Wolfen, so he is still pretty useful.
Personal Ranking: 3
Kaeliss, 1st
Pah! He is not considered a Wolfen, so cannot be used in standard GDR legal games. For all purposes he is a Daikinee. I have never used this version of him as all my games are GDR standard games.
Personal Ranking: 0
Kassar, the Fugitive
Awesome stats, crappy model! Anyway, you are basically getting a pretty nice Wolfen character for 86 points. Like most Wolfen, he is heavy in the offensive department, with a nice attack and a great strength. I like the fact that he scouts, and the fact that he can kill elemental beings really well! Wink Seriously though, the biggest problem I have with Kassar is that his model sucks! Okay, okay, he also cannot take a hit all that well. Still, Kassar is a great example of why conversions where invented! Anyway, he is still pretty useful in most situations…and with his artifact you can get assassin…at the cost of Born Killer.
Personal Ranking: 3.5
Killyox
Dude! Killyox! This guy is insane. His first incarnation is exactly what you expect from a 159 point Wolfen ass-beater. You are getting a Wolfen with a pretty nice Discipline with leadership/15, so you have yourself a pretty nice Leader in Both Versions. Obviously Killyox Second is a better buy, but you have to use more Pariahs to make use of the “Wolfen Chief” ability. Still, both incarnations of Kilyox are pure ass beatings, and toss in his artifact from the Card Pack, and you have yourself some pure awesomeness! When Themes are ok, Killyox second becomes awesome! Wheel of Dreams ALL the way baby!
Personal Ranking: 4.5
Lykai the Freed
So here we have the only shooty Wolfen character in the lot. Not bad stats for 80 points, and when you look at his abilities: Harassment and Conciseness, it Lykia too shabby. His Musket is strength 9, which is awesome, and has some pretty nice range. His mediocre aim hurts, but his ability to move a great distance and shoot should help keep the shooting difficulty low. Here comes the fun part: His Magic Musket. It gives him the ability to shoot again IF he kills a model. It’s great for 8 points, and just functions pretty damn nicely. Pair him up with some other shooting, and bam! You have a crazy Wolfen shooting list. I like him best with his musket, and is strength of 7 makes Lykia pretty effective at dealing with minor melee threats. Overall he is my favorite Howling Pack Character, and is pretty good overall. His biggest problem is his crappy resilience…good lord it sucks!
Personal Ranking: 3
Onyx the Prowler
I am not really even going to talk about Onyx 1st. He is pretty much what you expect from a cheap Wolfen character, in fact, he is the cheapest character in the Wolfen Line that has born killer. The Implacable 2 ability is pretty nice, with strength 10 or master strike 15; you will probably use the implacable once or twice…but now let’s talk about Onyx the Prowler, Second Incarnation. He is the best Wolfen Character for less than 100 points! Now why do I say that? First off, a hard hitting Wolfen with scout is extremely rare, and this allows him to get into the fray as quickly as possible. Also, with his “Bane/Scout” he is able to deploy near enemy scouts and get the beat down on! The thing that most people miss with Onyx is the fact that he is pretty awesome with the right equipment. Give him Resolution /2 and he becomes untouchable. Toss a Master Strike at 16 with the boosted Attack and watch most enemies fall under the hammer. In the Tourney at Dayton, I used Onyx with great success. He single handedly wrecked a few dwarves and a bunch of Orcs. I love Onyx…I always have, and always will. We just need a third incarnation, and maybe a better pack for him Wink
Personal Ranking: 5
Ophyr the Guardian
Umm…155 for a power 5 mage…umm…I will pass. Now wait a minute…hard boiled! HEY! Still worthless! Seriously, in Ragnarok maybe, but not in Confrontation…sure sure he has some tech…but with his tech and magic, you are looking at 200AP…just what Wolfen need…less points to spend on numbers.
Personal Ranking: 2
Saphyr, the Lone Wolfen
Now we are talking! I can handle a Wolfen Mage character at just under 100 points. Now he is not a warrior-mage, which mages him a little more useful in the long run. The key to Wolfen Magic is buffing, and without the Water elemental the Wolfen magic arsenal is still weak. I hope the Elemental has some more spells for the Wolfen. There are some options still, and he is considered a Lone Wolf, so he can work with the other Wolfen Lone Wolves.
Personal Ranking: 3
Syriak, the Intrepid
50 AP for a Devot Wolfen…pretty nice indeed! Then Rackham released his second incarnation…now this profile is NEVER used. I still like this profile, and I love the model. Still, the pretenders playing the Wolfen now-a-days do nothing other than summon anime, and if that is your cup of tea…stop reading now. This version of Syriak allows for buffing and supporting the Wolfen. You have plenty of options from the base book, and from the multitude of Destiny faithful. Cheap Devout with plenty of options! That is what I am talking about.
Personal Ranking: 4
Syriak, Pack Leader
O look, the Wolfen Crutch. We all know what he is used for. I challenge you to use something other than Animae summoning. Seriously, you can do it. I dare you! Look at some of the buff miracles…some of the other options. I know summoning is stupid good, but this stuff is what is wrong with the game. Try something like Blind Rage with a Healing Miracle…something…ANYTHING else!
Personal Ranking: 3 (he is awesome, but totally overused)
Varghar
Varghar is a pretty good Wolfen character for less than 80 points. Of course you are going to give him his artifact. He is a little cheaper than Onyx, doesn’t have the option for running his own pack, and is lacking a little initiative and discipline, but if you are looking to save a few points on the character, you can get your hands on Varghar. He has the “Authority” ability, which can help in a pinch, but he is lacking a lot of other things, like Implacable and scouting. Well, the model is awesome and Varghar kicked in the banner-breaking of Confrontation 3, so he wil always have a spot in my heart!
Personal Ranking: 3
The One list to rule them all
Sorry I could not help myself. Anyway, I have some MAJOR issues with just giving out lists, so you get ONE list…
The Moaning Moon Pack
In Cry Havoc 1, Rackham released the special rules for the “Moaning Moon.” According to the fluff, the Moaning Moon was the first pack to fall to the Vile-Tis’s lies. They have some pretty sweet abilites…if you want to know them all, buy the freaking Magazine.
Anyway, my list:
Onyx the Prowler, Second Incarnation
Moaning Moon Ability: Smith of Yillia (+1 resilience and strength)
Resolution /1
The Assassin Ability (given by the Moaning Moon)
Minor Potion of Speed
6 Wolfen Fangs (You know the 25 Ap Warriors) with “Soldiers of the Mists,” which allows them to deploy as Scouts
2 Great Fangs, with Assassin and “Soldiers of the Mists’ upgrades
That comes to 398 or something and totally legal in the 2006.5 tournement rules.
Anyway, this list has 9 wolfen, 4 cards, and has the ability to scout every model. Only Onyx second can remain hidden, but the entire list deploys like scouts. BAM! Wolfen on you on turn one. Like that huh? Anyway, my basic attack plan was to deploy the Fangs first and get the big models with the Assassins…errr Great Fangs and Onyx. Anyway, use assassin for getting the big issues out of the way…you know, 200 AP characters, Predators of Blood, Sons…all of them (Uren’s, Ogimos, etc, etc…)
Anyway, use the Potion of Speed to get Onyx into prime combats, where his implacable can kick in and grease some losers. Anyway, I used this list pretty effectively against some Orcs, and some Dwarves. I totally messed up the Harvest Scenario, as I should have attacked the center crop field first, instead of focusing on the closest one. O well, it happens! Against Paint_Me, the list have nothing to do with the match, but my plan worked well so I cannot complain. I think I ended the four rounds with 31 Victory Points and positive 125, or something close to that...coming in second place, between two Indy players.
Anyway, that is the only list you are getting. Get over it!
