I kind of like these games, can you recommend some? So far I played Final Fantasy Tactics I & II for GBA and 3DS and now Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the plume. I like the old-fashioned english in this game very much and try not to kill any party member, except for the twins, I don't like them... But it's an interesting concept! Somewhere there is an emulator version of Tactics Ogre, but sadly in Japanese and my Japanese is by far not good enough.

Have you tried Banner Saga? Not a long game but donr very well. I have completed the game 3 different times and thinking about another go. Plus they are working on the follow up with a third in the works.

My favorite tactical RPG was Vagrant Story... I am so sad they never updated that for any of the later consoles..

Thanks for the advices, I just had a look at them. Banner Saga looks really promising and interesting, and they announces it as well for the PS. That's gonna avoid the Steam-thing, because I'm not that glad with online-registration for gaming, but some day it'll be inevitable. I saw a video with an PS Vita version, but it seems to be just converted and not updated. Also a very interesting game, maybe I find the PS version as well.

I played banner saga on my ipad, it was nice to play on a touch screen. I just wish it had an option to play against other people.

A real obscure gem is on the PSP it was called Jean d' arc ( forgive my spelling plus my memory is hazy) I had to buy it on import but it was great. Like final fantasy tactics but with mythological monsters in war torn france. It was unique in many ways.

And the shadow run games on steam are pretty cool.

Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3 is more or less a story-driven tabletop skirmish wargame with a really cool watercolour filter over the graphics. Well worth hunting down.

There is a version for the PC available on Steam. It is a good game.

At the moment I'm enjoying Aarklash Legacy from Cyanide Studios. . I got it from good old games on one of there sales, it was very cheap. It is also available on Steam. Without a sale GoG has the cheaper standard price, usually under 20€. I almost forgot that I own it until I found it a few days ago on one of my backups. The game comes in English, French and German. It's a fun game some call it one of the most difficult tactical RPG's of 2013 or 2014. The game has a Confrontation IP, which is nice. There is no money, NSC interaction or shops, which I like. So there is no need to grind gold or repair your equipment constantly or go back to get the next quest. If you find equipment that you don't want to use you can salvage it. When the salvage meter fills you are granted with nice purple items to use or to salvage again. So you never ran around with a full inventory that forces you to go way back to sell things. The game features nice puzzles and a lot of fights that almost all have a special clue the player has to discover, so quick saves are your friend. Currently I'm in the 3rd level. The story is nice but not as deep as an RPG like Neverwinter Nights 2 or Baldur's Gate can offer. But if you are not in the mood to read a lot of dialogues this one is for you. It is also nice if you don't have a lot of playing time since you can save and quiet at any point. Also nice is that you can pause the game in every stage, I think this is handy for me especially if I look after the kids of my sister. And have I mentioned the nice looking levels which give me some inspiration for my Confrontation Terrain? I have to build this bridge for my table in smaller.

I quite like this game too, so much better than the other cyanide licensed confrontation based game although I quite like the dogs of war game too even though they poorly supported it and it's barely still alive.
