It's kind of neat to see such dedication to this system still present. I'm working on getting an RPG started in my family/friends gaming circle, and plan to use Cadwallon as the setting, although I intend to use a different rule system. I still have my Cadwallon book, Secrets 1, several Cry Havocs with Cadwallon materials in them, and even the Cadwallon GM Screen!
I've slowly been re-familiarizing myself with the concepts from the system, and want to bring some of the bigger concepts into this other system, such as Threat Level. Most content will simply be taking the Trades, abilities, spells/miracles, equipment and so forth...and trying to streamline and convert what I feel relevant into this other system. There is a LOT of streamlining to consider though, as Cadwallon got overly specific in a lot of actions...many of which seem to do the same thing (more or less), just under different circumstances.
I don't suppose you ever translated the elusive Secrets 2??? That was always a sore point for English fans - having such a notable piece of content only ever release in French. I actually have a copy of it in French, but it's never been much use to me as I don't know the language.

I bought Secrets 2, Scanned it, OCR'ed it, so that I have an digital Text. And then I put the first part, over the fiefs, into various machine translations. Et voilà, got something out, which I could understand. I mentioned before, I don't speak or learned french. Reworked it a little bit. So yeah I have rough translation of Secrets 2. BUT it is in german.

Cadwallon (english) P. 48 The Precious
wrong: the huge rooms of the Precious market hall (Opportunism/Jewellers) houses the dealing and bartering of the gem sellers. right: the huge rooms of the Precious market hall (Opportunism/Jewellers) houses the dealing and bartering of the jewel market.
french: les salles immenses de la halle des Précieuses (Opportunisme/Joailliers) abritent les échanges et les négociations du marché des pierres précieuses.
explanatory notes: I don't think that they mean here gems, like manastones, but they mean jewelery. Another proof is, that we have allready a gem-stone (mana-stone) market in the upper city. And the Precious market hall is under control of the guild of Jewellers (P. 252 this guild includes all the craftsmen specialized in the crafting of precious matter, such as metals, jewels, china or glass. The Jewelers thus include refiners, lapidaries, jewelers and diamond dealers.)
And the real gem-market (mana-stone market) is under control of the cartomancers.
Cadwallon (english) P. 50 Rampart - History
wrong: Halas Orrkrk was in no way a manager... right: Unfortunately Orrkrk was in no way a manager...
explanatory notes: hélas, which stands in the french version, means unfortunately.
Cadwallon (english) P. 53 Rampart - Khelekera
wrong: This great rich building is the property of the Orrgrk family. right: This great rich building is the property of the Orrkrk family.
Cadwallon (english) P. 57
wrong: He married her with great fast during the week of the Kraken of the year 1002. right: He married her with great pomp during the week of the Kraken of the year 1002.
french: l’épouser en grande pompe durant la semaine du Kraken de l’an 1002.
explanatory notes: I looked in the english dictionary, and fast has not a similar meaning as pomp. So I asked myself how did this error happened. But then in the french dictionary I found an solution. la pompe (french) and le faste (french), has similar meaning, which is pomp (english).
Cadwallon (english) P. 57 Powers
wrong: Resources providers, the Von Kraken are courted by the other Peers, especially those of the upper city who are always greedy for goods. right: Resources providers, the Von Kraken are courted by the other Peers, especially those of the upper city whose subordinates/subjects are always greedy for goods.
french: Pourvoyeurs de ressources, les de Kraken sont courtisés par les autres pairs, tout particulièrement ceux de la ville haute dont les sujets sont toujours avides de marchandises.
Cadwallon (english) P. 64 the Fabric
wrong: There stands a former fort invested by the Fabric (Style/Tanners). right: There stands a former fort, along the river, invested by the Fabric (Style/Tanners).

Cadwallon (english) P. 66 Gaorhh
wrong: Nicknamed the Area right: Nicknamed the Aery
Cadwallon (english) P. 66 The Stock
wrong: In order to sooth them, the Duke has built a Militia barracks (Discipline/Militia) with fortified walls running at the edge of the quays. right: In order to sooth them, the Duke has built a Militia barracks (Discipline/Militia) with fortified walls running at the edge of the platforms.
Cadwallon (english) P. 71 The Fields
wrong: Podgy is the founder of the co-op and leader of the group of faithful of the bards of destiny of Cadwallon.. A status which renders him untouchable! right: But Podgy is the founder and leader of the group and is a cadwë faithful of the bards of destiny, a status that makes him almost untouchable!
french: mais Le Gras, fondateur et dirigeant du groupement est un fidèle cadwë chantre de la destinée, un statut qui le rend quasiment intouchable !
explanatory notes: In my opinion, and how I understand the structure of the french sentence. And the machine translations share my opinion! Podgy is the founder and leader of the group (cooperative) and he is a bard of destiny. BUT he is not the leader of the bards of destiny.
Cadwallon (english) P. 72 Comedy Garden - Pillory Square
french: de l’ogre Tokhrr how it was translated in the english version: such as Tokkt the ogre.
explanatory notes: its up for you to decide wich name you like more. I see no reason why the translator changed the name from Tokhrr to Tokkt. I found no similar french word, or a word which was intermingled with the name of the ogre. But could be that I don't know enough french words. And the ogre is not mentioned in NPC chapters of Secrets Vol. 1 or Vol. 2.
Cadwallon (english) P. 76 The Skinner - Gates of the bestiaries
french: Porte des belluaires how it was translated in the english version: Gates of the Bestiaries right: Gate of the Bestiaries
explanatory notes: belluaires are gladiators fighting versus wild animals. In latin it is bestiarius/bestiarii. So it is difficult to translate, since we don't have special terms for gladiators fighting versus wild animals in english or german. And I would write Gate and not Gates. Perhaps it helps someone, because when I was reading it for the first time, I didn't know what the meaning of Bestiaries was.
Cadwallon (english) P. 77 The Bog
french: et seul le cri des engoulevents trouble le silence.
wrong: and the silence is only broken by the cry of the nighthawk. right: and the silence is only broken by the cry of the nightjar.
explanatory notes: when I translate engoulevents I get as a result, nightjar. But nighthawks are close relatives of nightjars, I think. Maybe someone is a ornithologist? No? But their cries are different, I listened to them on youtube.
Cadwallon (english) P. 79 Little Arenas - Weapon Trade Market
wrong: Notably thanks to Traggab, the manager. right: Notably thanks to Tragga, the manager.

Cadwallon (english) P. 81 Ghieronburg - Plots
A translator forgot to translate a whole passage. Again. This passage should be after: "speculators didn’t get away without being tainted."
french: Les guildes ont appris à composer avec les qualités et les défauts des Ghiéron. Malgré une bonne dose de méfiance réciproque due à des fiascos passés, elles s’implantent progressivement dans le fief. Dans le même temps, les Ghiéron ont appris à se méfier des succès faciles.
english: Guilds have learned to deal with the qualities and defects of the Ghierons. Despite a good dose of mutual mistrust due to past fiascos, they are gradually establishing themselves in the fief. At the same time, the Ghierons learned to be wary of easy successes.
And the next two passages are interchanged. In the english version it is Besides ........ Recurring........ But if it would be arranged like in the french version it must be Recurring...... Besides......
Cadwallon (english) P. 81 Ghieronburg - Plots
wrong: Adaldan Ghieron right: Adalban Ghieron
wrong: Thismee and Ombeline manage the relations between the Sihirs and Voyagers, right: Thismee and Ombeline manage the relations between the Sihirs and Voyagers as best they can,

Iam not sure maybe this was posted before.
Cadwallon (english) P. 83 Camp Valiant
wrong: It is said that the prisoners are sometimes requested to participate to the manoeuvres in the jungle... right: It is said that the prisoners are sometimes requested to participate to the manoeuvres in the jungle, risking their lives.
Cadwallon (english) P. 85 Slang
wrong: Go to Mardi Gras: Go to hell. right: Go to Mardi : Go to hell.
Cadwallon (english) P. 85 The great circlet
After this sentence: For the Cadwë magicians, Hollowdeep would be an embryo of a world caught in between these two mystical principals. Is in the french version another sentence.
french: Cette hypothèse invérifiable est jugée farfelue par les mages d’Alahan qui sont les maîtres des arts incantatoires. english: This unverifiable hypothesis is considered eccentric by the mages of Alahan who are the masters of the incantatory arts.
Cadwallon (english) P. 86 History
wrong: He has developed his enclave to his liking by renovating the works of his predecessors : a forgotten square, a tattered statue... right: He has adapted to his enclave and makes the most of it by renovating the works of his predecessors : a forgotten square, a tattered statue...
explanatory notes: I am not a professional translator and don't speak french. But multiple machine translation sites, give es a result, the sentence that I posted. But I will post the french sentence, so that you can decide by your own.
french: Il s’est adapté à son enclave et en tire le meilleur parti en rénovant les œuvres de ses prédécesseurs : une place oubliée, une statue abîmée…
Cadwallon (french) P. 86 History
The french says: 7 years of reign of the duke The english says: 8 years of reign of the duke
I think the 8 years is right.
Cadwallon (english) P. 90 Alliance
wrong: The whole is carved in a translucent rock, gift of Lanever at the foundation of Cadwallon. right: The whole is carved in a translucent rock, a gift from Lanever in the occasion of the foundation of Cadwallon.
french: L’ensemble est taillé dans une roche translucide, don de Lanever à la fondation de Cadwallon.
explanatory notes: again I am not an expert translator. But I think my version makes more sense. I read the whole book, and there is no foundation of Cadwallon in an financial aspect. And since the building is in Den Azhir, they can not mean the foundation of Cadwallon alias the rock on which Cadwallon is build upon. So what I think makes sense. When Cadwallon was founded, or to commemorate an anniversary of this day. The elfes of Lanever gave the Alliance (building) as an gift.
Cadwallon (french) P. 92 Error in the french version
wrong: Pair : Bernadil Ghiéron right: Pair: Albanne Drakaër
Cadwallon (english) P. 100
wrong: the Belevedere right: the Belvedere
in the french version of the book it is called : le Belvédère

The french version: Chantre de la Destinée Rang 6 : Communier/DISFéal de la Souffrance Rang 6 : Communier/DISHéraut de la Félicité Rang 6 : Communier/DISThen you look under talents in the french version, communier does not exist as an talent nor as an distinctive feature. How it was translated in the english version: Bards of Destiny Rank 6: Meditate/SLEMinstrel of Pain Rank 6: Medidate/SLE (Error: wrong spelled)Herald of Felicity wrong: Rank 6: Barter/SUBright: Rank 6: Meditate/SLE
Ok looks like the translator, interpreted communier as meditate. Méditer exists in the french version, that is an plus. But why have the Heralds of Felicity not Meditate? Given the fact, that I know that the translators did not have much time to translate Cadwallon and that because of that a lot of errors slipped into the translation. I think that this is such an error. And Meditate makes more sense for an faithfull, because he can regain more temporal faith points. ----------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 152 engineer wrong: Those who work with steam or naphta are called techno-scientists and techno-engineers, respectively. right: Those who work with steam or naphta are called thermo-scientists and techno-engineers, respectively. french: Ceux qui manipulent la vapeur ou le naphte sont respectivement nommés thermo-savants et technogénieurs. ----------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (french) P. 155 not an error but odd translation, coming back from old confrontation times. Maybe? Brutal (passive) When he makes a confrontation action favored by Pugnacity and targeting an opponent in contact, the character considers free dice as bonus dice. Obligation: The player must not hesitate when he has to announce the actions of his characters. GM’s call.Brutish charge (passive)An extra die is kept on a damage roll stemming from a Charge action. The adding rule is applied to results kept, if possible.Obligation: The player must resolve only one action this round: a charge. *Ruthless (passive) When inflicting damage to an opponent, the character always pushes him back by at least a square. This distinctive feature has no effect on Steadfast characters. Obligation: The character must try to push back all opponents with whom he is in contact.explanatory notes: french brute épaisse = english brutal. You can easily see this by looking at the passage with GM or MJ (french) in it. That's bad that should not be. french Charge bestiale = english brutish charge. You can see this by looking at the last sentence une charge = a charge. french brutal = english ruthless. So now we need to find out what is right and what is wrong. We can take a look at the Confrontation 3 talents, because most of the times they were used for Cadwallon aswell. conf.phoenixguard.de/confrontation/faehigkeiten.phpBrute épaisse = Brutal Charge bestiale = Brutish charge Brutal = Ruthless Ok looks like no error at all. But strange that french brutal was not translated into english brutal. ----------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 155 Conscience wrong: He can use counter-magic (or censorship) right: He can use counter-magic (or revoke) french: Il peut effectuer de la contre-magie (ou de la censure) expalnatory notes: if you make a search in the french Cadwallon, there is no censure in the whole book, but there is the ability censurer. Censurer = revoke. And it makes sense, since you can weaken miracles with revoke. And the text in the distinctive feature Conscience is about destroying/countering/weakening, magic spells and miracles. ----------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 127 Free d6 wrong: Some rules (attitude, gift, etc.) right: Some rules (attitude, feat, etc.)
----------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 160 Sequence wrong: Each extra die lowers his abilities by a point. right: Each extra die lowers his attitudes by a point. french: Chaque dé supplémentaire ainsi acquis réduit d’un point toutes les attitudes. explanatory notes: abilities in french are called talents. So I think it is an error of the translation. Yeah and you can look in Confrontation 3, Sequence is similar there.

Cadwallon (english) P. 155 Blood Brother
wrong: Obligation: The character’s blood brother must be from the same race as he is. right: Obligation: The character’s blood brother must be from the same culture as he is.
french: Obligation : Le personnage doit choisir son frère de sang au sein de la même culture que lui.
explanatory notes: Maybe I don't understand this. But race would be l’espèce in french. For example you have the griffin culture, and in this culture could be humans, dwarfs and elfs (maybe dwarfs and elfs as minority). They all live in the same country alias Akkylannie and are fighting for the same cause. So why shouldn't be an human and a dwarf be blood brothers? Since I have seen hundreds of errors in the english Cadwallon and not so many in the french Cadwallon, I will stick with the french version.
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 155 Blood Brother
wrong: once their dice have been placed. right: in the moment the dice are being distributed. fench: au moment où ceux-ci sont répartis. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 157 Martyr
wrong: To do this he must make a feat causing him X Penetrating/0 damage points. right: To do this he must make a fact causing himX Penetrating/0 damage points. french: Il doit pour cela effectuer un fait lui infligeant X points de dégâts (Pénétrant/0).
explanatory notes: fait P. 192 (french) was translated as facts (english). feats (english) is the same as don (french). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 158 Mutagenic
There is a sentence missing in the english Cadwallon. After the first sentence. .....from medical experiments. There should be this following sentence. At least it is so in the french version.
french: Son organisme dispose désormais d’une grande capacité à s’adapter à son environnement. english: His body now has a great capacity to adapt to its environment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 158 Negation
wrong: A character with this distinctive feature does not need to see his target when countering magic or censoring. right: A character with this distinctive feature does not need to see his target when countering magic or using revoke. french: Un personnage doté de ce signe particulier n’a pas besoin de voir sa cible lorsqu’il exerce la censure ou la contre-magie.
explanatory notes: Same error as with Conscience. There is no Ability, Talent, Distinctive Feature or whatever called censoring or censhorship. if you make a search in the french Cadwallon, there is no censure in the whole book, but there is the ability censurer. Censurer = revoke. And it makes sense, since you can weaken miracles with revoke. And the text in the distinctive feature Negation is about countering magic spells and maybe over countering/weakening miracles.
----------------------------------------------------------------
There are some distinctive features concerning health level "dead". In french healt level "Mort". Maybe the mean incapacitated? But I have to take a closer look. Just a reminder for me. for example possessed P. 158 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 159 Regeneration/X
WTF
english: On a result equal to or lower than 5 or X (the lower of the two), // 1,2,3,4,5 all these numbers on a d6 are a success??? lol NO WAY. french: Sur un résultat inférieur ou égal à 2 ou X (le plus bas des deux), // 1,2 on a d6 are a success right: On a result equal to or lower than 2 or X (the lower of the two),
explanatory notes: In the english version the success-rate is to high. If you look on the keyboard 2 and 5 are adjacent keys. So a typo could be possible. But according to these rules Regeneration/4 would make no sense, because it is always the lower of the two. In this case not 1,2,3,4 instead only 1,2 although you have Regeneration/4
User Stormcrow posted: About Regeneration/X, the Errata has it corrected to 5. It makes sense because X will increase as the POT of the character increases by Experience, so it gives Regeneration an upper limit, as it improves with experience. -------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 235 Arkabast the Gardener (2)
wrong: Trades: Clerk (Jackal) 1 / ..... right: Trades: Cleric (Jackal) 1 / .....
explanatory notes: clerc (french) = cleric (english) and not clerk ---------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 236 Frol
wrong: Frol, a Wolfen with black fur, right: Frol, a Wolfen with bright fur, french: Frol, un Wolfen au pelage clair, ---------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P 238 Larenia
wrong: Knowledges: Business 1 right: Knowledges: Business (Prostitution) 1 french: Commerce (Prostitution) 1
explanatory notes: Maybe translator was embarrased to write the word. Or there is a law in USA, which does not allow to write over Prostitution in America. Or Translator forgot it. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Cadwallon (french) P 240 Nurbald I am not sure which is better? I need to take a closer look. All I can say english and french version have different numbers. wrong: Nurbald le Sculpteur (4) right: Nurbald le Sculpteur (3)
and in the french version he is Incarné (D), means he is an Incarnate. In the english version he is not an Incarnate. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (french) P 240 Palythiss
wrong: Trades: Clerk (Lilith 2) right: Trades: Cleric (Lilith)2 french: Métier : Clerc (Lilith) 2
explanatory notes: clerc (french) = cleric (english) and not clerk ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am not sure which is better? I need to take a closer look. All I can say english and french version have different numbers. french: Alahel le Messager (7) english: Alahel the Messenger (6)
How should I know which is wrong and which is right? If you sum up his Trades: 3+2+1=6, according to this the english Version would be the correct on. That's the same way I decided for Nurbald the Sculptor. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cadwallon (english) P. 245 Shanys the Shadow
wrong: Shanys is the feline and mortal silhouette which delivers the sentences of the ambassador from Akkylannie to Cadwallon. right: Shanys is the feline and mortal silhouette which executes the sentences of the ambassador of Akkylannie in Cadwallon. or Shanys is the feline and mortal silhouette which dispenses the sentences of the ambassador of Akkylannie in Cadwallon. french: Shanys est la silhouette féline et mortelle qui dispense les sentences de l’ambassadeur d’Akkylannie à Cadwallon.
explanatory notes: Maybe the original sentence is right too. But Shanys is in my opinion an expert killer and "to deliver the sentences of...to Cadwallon" sounds to me, as if she would be a mailman. " Hello I just wanted to deliver this sentence, here I give it to you, see you later. Goodbye." AND "from Akkylannie to Cadwallon" is, in my opinion, wrong, too. The ambassador of Akkylannie is already in Cadwallon, so there is no need to deliver something. The only need is to execute the sentence or to deliver the sentence, but in the meaning of "I take this knife and put it in your chest." alias to kill someone. ------------------------------------------------------
Cadwallon (english) P. 263 Wind of ecstasy
wrong: He can get a pool size of up to 2 x POW this way. right: He can get a pool size of up to 2 x POT this way. french: Il peut ainsi avoir une réserve supérieure à 2 x POT.

I think you are right about the change from "to" to "in". However, I don't think there's anything wrong with the use of "delivers" in this case. To some, it might sound weird, but I've seen it used in this sort of context before. "He delivered the killing blow" is a phrase that's not unheard of.
Still a lot of great work going on here!

Cadwallon (english) P. 270 Dazzle
wrong: In addition, it may no longer shoot or cast a spell. right: In addition, it may no longer shoot or throw an object. french: Elle est également dans l’incapacité de tirer ou de lancer un objet. ----------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 270 Mind Probe
wrong: The DM must reveal one of the target’s secrets to the player. Each gamble allows to learn an extra secret. The secrets revealed are those with the highest value, in decreasing order. right:: The GM must reveal one of the target’s knowledges to the player. Each gamble allows to learn an extra knowledge. The knowledges revealed are those with the highest value, in decreasing order. french: Le MJ doit révéler un des savoirs de la cible au joueur. Chaque pari permet de connaître un savoir supplémentaire. Les savoirs révélés sont ceux dont la valeur est la plus élevée, dans l’ordre décroissant. ---------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 270 Heavenly vision
wrong: Difficulty: NM + 2 right: Difficulty: TL + 2
explanatory notes: TL = Threat Level, NM (Niveau de Menace) is french for Threat Level ------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 272 Mystic strengthening english and french text is different but I think the text in the english Cadwallon is better.
french: Les personnages alliés bénéficient d’une qualité par défaut sans prise de pari pour tous leurs tests de ce round. french translated: Allied characters benefit from a default quality without taking gambles for all their tests in this round. english in cadwallon: Allied characters gain one free gamble without using gambles for all their tests this round.
explanatory notes: In Confrontation 3 the card has the name Mystische Veredelung. And according to the text, I think the "one free gamble" is better. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 272 Shamanism In the french Cadwallon this sentence is after "..... gesas."
french: L’origine commune entre les Drunes et les Sessairs se retrouve dans leur décorum. english: The common origin between the Drunes and the Sessairs is found in their decorum. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 286 Double-or-nothing (The invocation doubles the quality of a dice-roll, which was made with an gamble.) wrong: (for example a gamble of 6 would give a resulting quality of 6 instead of only 3). right: (for example a gamble of 3 would give a resulting quality of 6 instead of only 3). french: (par exemple un pari de 3 confère un résultat de qualité 6 au lieu de seulement 3). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cadwallon (english) P. 298 Divine Sight
wrong: The target temporarily gains the feat “Intuition”. french: La cible est momentanément dotée du don « Intuition ». right: The target temporarily gains the feat Conscience.
explanatory notes: There is no feat Intuition in Cadwallon rules, not in french and not in english. I looked up the miracle in confrontation 3. And there the miracle is called Divine eye/Göttliches Auge. And there the target gets consciousness-ability/Bewusstsein.
And this here is a good example: What I am trying in the german translation, is trying to use the same wording as in confrontation 3, because most miracles, magic spells, abillities and feats are mostly borrowed from confrontation 3. And if someone long time before me, has translated them, why translate them again, and then you have different wordings. For example. Œil divin -> Divine eye (Confrontation 3) -> Divine Sight (Cadwallon)

This is amazing! You've really done a great job. I remember translating Confrontation Cards back in the day but this is a whole other level.
I saw that you said you had scanned Secrets 2 and OCR'd it. Is it possible to get a copy of your scanned PDF? Secrets 2 is one of the books I have been unable to find in PDF. That and the English version of Secrets 1. This is really some great work! Thanks.

Cadwallon (english) P. 300 Ira Tenebrae summoning
french: Si d'autres Immortels du meme type invoqués par le fidèle assisten à cette agression, ils suivent l'exemple et attaquent également le fidéle. french translated: If other Immortals of the same type invoked by the faithful see this attack, they follow the example and also attack the faithful. english version: If other Immortals of the same type see this attack, they follow suit and also attack the faithful.
In the english version: invoked by the faithful is missing. The translator forgot to translate, or if it was taken out on purpose by Rackham, we don't know.
Cadwallon (english) P. 67. The Embassy of Akkylanny is in the Stock, not in the Span. (info is taken from the Errata for the french Cadwallon)
