I had some games with the new Devourer and Cynwall armies, as usual for testing the armie it was just open season and no mission.
Devourer vs. Alahan
This was a bit crazy, because he wanted to play an Alahan rider list. We both knew it would be hard for me, and I tried to come up with a list that can handle the high MOV, STR and RES of the riders. I first thought about Drunes (mass + fierce), but they don't have the STR to cut thorugh the Lion's armour, that's why I ended up with the Devourer, because they have as well high MOV, STR and RES.
Devourer
Revelation: Ecstasy (give Possessed and Brutish Charge to all models)
Zeiren 2nd with Vorace Blade
2 Marauders
Flesh-Eater (with Counter-Attack)
Huntsman
Tyrant
Alahan
Barony: Allmoon (Survival Instinct for all)
Red Lioness on horse
3 Riders
It was like expected. We played three games in the time we usually play one. In the first I went down in round two without hitting anything, in the second game I lasted till round three and got a rider killed, and in the third game I lasted till round four and got three riders a severe wound. Additionally, Survival Instinct worked about eight times, and three kills have been due to Sacred Weapon. I usually rolled somewhere at the first two columns...
With the higher DIS and lesser cards, the Lions had an advantage in placing the minis. In the first game, I got the Devourer to far away from each other, so the riders could get them easily one by one with their higher movement.
In the second game, I waited a bit more, the Huntsman wounded one rider and the Flesh-Eater finished him off. But it wasn't enough, because all the others died during the first attack of the riders.
Game three was similar, but at least I could maneuver around a bit more, so that I could wound two riders and the Lioness.
With three games in a row, I noticed a learning curve as well. And as it has been my first games with Devourers, I'm confident that it'll work a bit better the next time.
We knew that a riders list is totally overpowered, but it was fun. Sometimes you just wanna go wild with a list...
Devourer vs. Dirz
Devourer
Zeiren 2nd with Vorace Blade
2 Fangs
2 Warriors of Blood
Huntsman
Flesh-Eater (Counter-Attack)
Tyrant
Dirz
Tissan'Ka
5 Sentinels of Danakil
Vicar of Dirz
Jadharis Clone
Centurus Clone
Biopsist wit Mana Arrow
Skorize
The Dirz hide mostly out of sight because of the Huntsman, the Devourer split into different groups. The plan was to shoot with the Huntsman, then give the Warriors of Blood as bait and charge in later with the Fangs and the heavy ones. But then there was the Dirz Scouting Team, and because the Dirz won DIS, the Skorize attacked the Huntsman. The Warriors of Blood and the Fang went on, and while the Half-Elves got into battle, the Fangs miscalculated the distance and stopped about 2 cm before the enemy. But on the other hand, the Centurus did the same...
The second Fang was attacked by the Biopsist, and in the middle, the Half-Elves have been attacked by two Danakil, Zeiren tried to pull out the Jadharis from one battle group, which was succesfull. Nevertheless, the Half-Elves lasted only one round (in both cases because of the Danakil's weapons which kill when they do a critical wound), the Skorize got really lucky with the Huntsman, and so the Devis where decimated one after another.
I think I just have to keep them more together in their attack groups (usually one Fang, one Warrior of Blood, and either the Flesh-Eater or the Tyrant) and not split them up so easily. Patience, wait, move, hide, attack. Well, at least it's the theory.
Devourer vs. Cynwall
Devourer
same as above
Cynwall
Way: Blade of Truth
Maelyn with Orb of Resonance, Forge of the Heliast, Aura of Light, and Solar Power
Quasar
2 Azure Hunters
2 Asadar
2 Khidarym
The Cynwall used the scenery and hid most of the time behind some ruins. An Asadar blocked the way through the ruins, where a Fang and a Warrior of Blood came along. Another Fang and Warrior of Blood tried to get around the right side of the ruins, together with the Huntsman that tried to shoot over the Half-Elf, but he failed 5 of 6 times...
Tyrant and Flesh-Eater tried the other way around, while Zeiren was about to stop the Azure Hunters. Maelyna and the Quasar waited behind the ruins.
The Devourer group on the right side where stopped by an Asadar and a Khidarym, and while the Khidarym could kill the Fang while he got critically wounded, the Asadar and the Warrior of Blood didn't to much. The Fang in the ruins attacked the Asadar and was also killed, while the second Half-Elf joined the battle with the Khidarym and finished him off two rounds later. So on the right side of the ruins, the two surviving Warriors of Blood and the Huntsman survived and came closer. On the other side of the ruins, the Azure hunters shot at the Tyrant and the Flesh-Eater twice before they pulled back, Zeiren on their heels. The Flesh-Eater crashed into the Quasar, got him critical, but thanks to Maelyn's orb and a Rune of Healing, he went to unscathed at the end of the round. The other Khidarym and the Asadar from the ruins finished the Tyrant in three rounds, but the Asadar went down doing so.
Zeiren killed the Azure Hunters, went around a lake and attacked the Quasar. The Half-Elves supported him, the Huntsman tried to shoot the remaining three Cynwalls (Quasar, Maelyn and a Khidarim), but failed.
At the end of round six, the Cynwall had a bit more remaining points, and therefore won the game, but it really was close to a draw.
Cynwall vs. Tir-Na-Bor
Cynwall
same as above, but Forge of the Heliasts was changed to Helianthic Masterpiece
Tir-Na-Bor
Kulzarak with Familiar of Earth, Warrior of the Earth, Warrior of Alphax and The Strange Art
Provost of Uren with Protection of Uren
Son of Uren
Khor Knight of Uren
Dwarven Armourer
4 Khor Warriors
Bombardier
The dwarves waited, while Kulzarak casted Warrior of Alphax on the Knight and Uren's son, and the Provost Protection of Uren on both of them. The Cynwall sneaked through the terrain, and the Bombardier could just wound one Azure Hunter. In round three, the Cynwall where close enough for attack, but the dwarves where to greedy, and the Knight and Son of Uren went out without backup or even the chance that their comrades could get to them in the next round. Therefore, both where surrounded by the Elves and killed. After that, it didn't change much. The Azure Hunters killed the Bombardier, before they have been attacked by a Khor Warrior. Kulzarak killed the Quasar with his spell, another Asadar was killed, and then almost nothing happened in the last two rounds. Nearly everything was in 1-on-1 combat: each Azure Hunter had a Khor Warrior, one Asadar attacked Kulzarak, one Khidarym the Provost, one Asadar was charged by the Armourer, the second Khidarym by another Khor Warrior. And that was it, nothing moved or was killed for two rounds, which was quite amazing. So I guess the lists have been quite balanced. In the end, the Cynwall killed more AP than the Dwarves did.
