While the one thread is useful to collate any and all Hybrid resources, I thought I would separate out the discussion of the game it self, how it plays, house rules, custom missions etc.
So my input. I bought it new back in 2003. Played it twice (the rules confused me in places... mainly those damned natural values). I painted most of the Dirz stuff in the game and then lost some stuff.
Roll on 2014, I piggybacked the Kingdom Death KS pledge of a friend, and thought, "Damn, I need to play Hybrid again, since it would be a good project to get me in the mood for KD". 1 year later, all the core missions played, models lost replaced, models thought lost, recovered, and almost all models for the game bought and painted.
Having played all the core missions, all I can say is that is there is a lot of replay value to be had, since we have used only a handful of the models for the game, and some of them can dramatically change how missions operate. Of the core game, there are a few missions that shine, and one I think is not great. But I can explain those later.
Rules wise there is little wrong. Hidden activation is really fun, and lets you bluff some stuff.
Thoughts?

Did you roll with the universalhead stuff online for cleaning the rules up and having them organized for folks you were introducing it to? If not, what did you use when trying to get folks playing who may have been hesitant given the state of the rulebook?
I haven't played in ages, but with my local community exploding with interest in games such as Imperial Assault, Mansions of Madness, Decent, and Super Dungeon Explore, I figured it may be a golden opportunity to crack the box back open and give it another go.
I've also been looking to get some newer bases and strip my models and give them a fresh coat of paint.

I have owned it for years, but sadly never played. Your endorsement has piqued my interest, though! How long is a play session?

So I have made use of the retranslation of the rules, but during the game, I really only refer to them for errata, while the main game books are fine as they are. Given the game is so self contained, and my own gaming group has been rather small, getting people has not been hard, and so long as you have read the retranslation of the rules, getting through the game and teaching it is easy. Typically a game session is anywhere from an hour to two, depending on the mission and how well both players are acquainted with the rules.

I've played a couple game sessions with my friends and boy is it fun. I really like both the atmosphere and the scenerio-oriented gameplay so it's not just "Smash all Griffin" or "Smash all Dirz" (Although those situations do arise once in a while!) We played with Steve Roger's re-translation of the rules Found Here and I am a big fan. I'm still working on getting all the minis for it although I think I'm close to being there. We used a translation/organization of the rules by Since it's gone out of print I've been looking for a game that has the same atmosphere/playstyle (that's not Spacehulk) but haven't found one.

Great to hear you are having fun with it. I need to get some games in, but everything is all packed away still. Hopefully next month will be the restart once I am moved to Sheffield. That version of the rules you linked to is the best there are. Sorts out everything. Nearest things I think that will tap into the same sort of play experience are Wrath of Demons, and Kingdom Death (the later I have arriving hopefully this summer).

I have a buddy who went crazy all-in on Kingdom Death so I think he's recieving everything they're making with the kickstarter. I'll have to make sure I'm there when they start up a campaign. The "survival" and progression aspects really attracted me, while the art style just didn't do it for me. I've never heard of Wrath of Demons though, I'll have to look it up!

While I got into Hybrid for the cause of painting, I stumbled on the Steve Rogers ruleset as well and must say, still going through them, they are very clear. They're not new rules, though have some HouseRules that can be well incorporated in any selected scenario, as well as be left out as you see fit. They mostly make sense to me.

I was lucky enough to score a copy of the game and expansion for slightly less than retail price a couple of years back. I got *really* excited (I'd wanted it ever since it was released but could never afford it), painted all the models, bought a load more, sleeved all the cards, stuck all the tokens to plastic counters, bought little plastic boxes to organise it all... and then never ever played it. I should really suggest it to some of the Rackham fans round my way!

You should! It is so fluff-rich and just a great way to spend an evening! Make sure you get Steve's ruleset though!

It seemed interesting.

(I decided to necro-bump, rather than make a new topic)
I've recently been painting my Hybrid models after bringing it out of a 10-year span in storage. I'm pretty excited to play it again, as it has been many years. Games have changed a lot in that time, and my own personal interests in games have changed some too. I'm considering making some adjustments to the game, although I don't know just how much I plan to do so. Just brainstorming up to this point. That being said, I thought it might be interesting to pose some questions about other people's' interest in the game:
In Hybrid (and all it's official expanded content), what is your favorite: - army - individual model profile - army card - event card - scenario
