I came across an open source software called Vassal that allows you to convert boardgames and make them playable via the web. On a german board there was already a try to convert Confrontation as well, but it seems pretty dead and not updated since two years. What do you think about it? Maybe this is a good idea to connect with the remaining players worldwide? I'll definitely have a look at it.

I don't have experience in "online wargaming" except watching several WHFB battles on Universal battle site, but I will be very interested in any way that will help me play Confrontation with as many people as possible.

Please take a look at it, I'd be willing to play! I am no programmer, but I can use Photoshop if you need any visual stuff. Those markers are very do-able quickly...

It's working on Linux, OS X and Windows. For other systems you'll need a Java Runtime Environment, so I guess it could work?

I had a first glimpse at the engine, some tutorials and the old german beta as well. Seems not to be that complicated, but time-consuming. I think I'll start with Daikinee and Ophidians, simply because there are not that much miniatures for those factions which makes it easier. Unfortunately the old german beta used a different ruleset and gives the commands in german as well, so I can't build up on that, but it's a very good inspiration.

Update: Movement and Rotation is covered, also the dice-rolling and the stats of the Daikinee. Woundmarkers and Magic is implemented, I'm working on Faith. Next step will be the cards. Just well I have Easter Break.

This is a picture from the progress at the moment. Cards are not included yet, but the Daikinee are finished. I tried to put as much as possible on the picture, but unfortunately the unit menu couldn't be shown. If you do a right click on the miniature's image, there pops up a menu with all the commands that are necessary for this unit: Movement, Rotation, Status (Panic, Charged, Flying, Steam Accident, Fierce, ...), Change Healthlevel, Aura Effect (Leadership, Aura of Faith, Consciousness, ...), Magic Gems or Temporary Faith. Most of them are shown with little counters that are around or inside the picture of the unit. Numae was charged by the Mandigorn and is also in Panic. The Mandigorn has a Light Wound. The Sylph is flying on level 1. Meari has 2 points of Temporary Faith left, but unfortunately no one is in his Aura of Faith (the Mandigorn counts as an enemy in this example ). Shaenre has still 4 gems of Water. The Zephir has moved, you can see the trail of movement, and is ready to shoot at the Mandigorn. With range 8 it is definetively in short distance. The Mandigorn and Numae have also been in H2H-combat. First Initiative was rolled: Mandigorn 6 and Numae 7, so the latter strikes first. His Attack was 11, the Defense of the Mandigorn just a 10. For the Wound Roll there is a 2d6 button at the top. On the top left side there is the choose menu for the factions (just Daikinee at the moment) and then it differs for characters and troups. Also the gaming map is rubbish at the moment, but it shows what it can do.

I included the cards and the Ophidians and experimented with some map building stuff. The cards are drawn from a menu similar to the units onto the Hand menu. Each player has his own hand that couldn't be seen by the other player, at least in theory. The cards are in high resolution, so that you can zoom in and read the abilities or the artifacts, spells, miracles or explanation cards. From the Hand the cards go on to the Activation Menu. Here each player has his activation sequence pile, the actual activation and two reserve spots. In this example the Daikinee player has activated Numae and has two cards in reserve, the Ophidian player activated S'Erum and has one card in reserve. It is pretty much window managing, with all the different menus (cards and troups) and extra windows (activation and hand cards), but after it is settled once in the beginning of a game it should be fine.

I'm still busy with some finetuning, but I'll link a download over the weekend so you can run some tests. Little by little all the other factions will eventually be included.
