Some Dragonpainting members might remember this story, finally we played the next chapter!
But first, here are the old ones.
We wanted to play something like a story based campaign, not only games on their own but games that are connected to each other through a story.
Therefore we started with a scenario that led, depending on the outcome, to the next and so on. Unfortunately, the first three games have already been played, so therefore this is just a recreation of the events to get the story together. The next parts will be more detailed and accurate.
The Story of Rom'ro and Dschu-lya
Once upon a time there was a young Orc warrior who fell in love with a beautiful goblin maiden, but her father was against this liasion and kept his daughter away from the world. The orcish warrior called for help and some of his friends tried together with him to rescue the damsel in distress.
But Dschu-lya's father heard rumours about this and waited for the Orcs.
The guards waited on the bridges to stop the love-drunken Orc and his friends.
All two bridges were heavily guarded while Dschu-lya waited to be rescued.
Meanwhile the Orcs arrived at the swamps and sneaked nearer.
Lakes and Swamps hindered them...
...but one after the other they finally formed ranks.
The Goblins waited with patience.
And then, all hell break loose. The Brontops charged the Ogres and Samuras at the bridges, supported by Amok Slayers and Jackal Warriors.
The Brutes, Rom'ros comrades, attacked the Goblins.
Dschu-lya, waiting.
Those who fight in the name of love can't lose, and the Goblins were swept away.
The first Brontops reached the prisoner, while the others took care of the few remaining resistance.
The two lovers could happily escape together. From now on, Dschu-lya (stats like a Goblin Ninja with Poison/2) is considered as a part of the army and she has Bloodbrother with Rom'ro, a Brute Veteran.
Young love and old stones
Although the lovers were finally united, they were not safe, beause in his wrath Dschu-lya's father sended troops after them. The Orcs had to escape through some old ruins and the lovers had to escape about the other end of the table to win this scenario.
The Goblins guarded the ruins. To escape from her father, Dschu-lya and Rom'ro had to flee through the ruins.
The Orcs lined up and made up a plan.
First, the main part of the army should attack the Goblins, then the others had to find a way through the ruins.
The first assault was unleashed and the forces crashed into each other.
Some Goblins also entered the ruins to cut of the way.
Rom'ro and Dschu-lya entered the ruins.
Those old stones saw a lot of blood these days.
Few remained, and even the lovers had to fight.
The Brontops' fat ass couldn't make it through the doors so he waited outside...
Finally, the lovers could escape, but Rom'ro was really heavily wounded and poisoned from a Goblin Ninja. Rescue was in need. They remembered an old legend about a fountain with healing powers, that just happened to be not far away from here?
Healing Fountains
In the centre of the table is a fountain. Each fighter suffers from Ephemereal/5. Only the fighters who are in direct base contact with the fountain are not affected, they profit instead from Regeneration/5 as long as they maintain base contact.
The aim for the lovers is to reach the fountain, be there for at least one round and then flee to the side were they came from.
Worn out from the battles the orcs reached the area of the mystic fountain.
Unfortunately a Wolfen pack claimed the fountain as her territory and would never let a stranger spoil the sacred water.
The Orcs reached the fountain, but so did the Wolfen as well.
One by one, the Orcs died under the Wolfen's furious blows. And even not every Wolfen participated in the battle yet...
Very soon the remaining Orcs were surrounded by Wolfen. The Orcs inflicted nearly no damage, the few dead Wolfen were thanks to Ephemereal...
Rom'ro and Dschu-lya took their chance and fleed, but the Wolfen soon made up again. Rom'ro suffered a deadly wound and only Dschu-lya could escape, thanks again to her Poison and Ephemereal for the Wolfen...
So the Wolfen captured Rom'ro and this time it is on her to rescue him from the furious savages. Or maybe she would be better of with someone else, someone who does not always keeps on almost dying? We'll see in the next episode.
Scenario and armies are not decided yet. Hope you had some fun with this stuff, I sure had.
Dead comes twice
We decided to play the next episode with Acheron vs. Wolfen. The latter is obvious because of the outcome of the last episode and the decision for Acheron was made because of the misfortune with the varnish I experienced. So before they take their acetone bath they should prove their value. Also, because it was the first time I played them myself, I could get some experience with the undead, check if my plans would work and what is still to improve.
For the background, Dschu-lya hired some Acherons with the promise they could keep the bodies of the Wolfen.
So, on the one side there was:
House Vanth
Ehjin de Vanth with
- Ira Tenebrae summoning (Perseverance Virtue)
- Inferno of Damnation
- Force of Darkness
- Possession
- Blood of the Abyss
- Liturgical Instrument
Azael with
- Darkness summoning
- Morbid puppet summoning
- Darkness familiar
Gravedigger of Salauel (undead version) with
- Chain of grave
3 Black Paladins with Loyal/1
Dschu-lya and Rom'ro
On the other side the Wolfen:
Isakar 2nd
2 Predators of Blood
2 Grave Guardians
Guardian of the Runes with Silvan Animae summoning
Sacred Vestal
Sentinel
The mission was from a Dogs of War scenario where Rom'ro was held prisoner in a cage. He has a light wound, and from the second round he has one combat dice to get out of the cage (RES 8, 6 structure points). Of course the others could help him.
The Wolfen stand in line, some for the left flank, some for the right, some for the middle, while Isakar is hold back for emergencies.
Rom'ro in his "cage"
The Paladins should shield the two ladies while they summon their hands off. The Loyal/1 from each paladin should help with faith points until all is summoned and the enemies are near.
One flank.
Ready to rush into the Undead.
The watcher watches the prisoner.
Round one
Ehjin summons three IT, Azael tries to summon two morbid puppets but gets a 1 on every roll, the Gravedigger miracles (ist that even a proper word?) the Chain of grave on himself so that the first dead in his aura of faith is turned into a zombie.
The Guardian of the Runes fails on summoning a SA.
The left and right flank goes nearer, while Acheron is getting forward in formation.
Three wolfen approach in the middle of the battlefield.
Acheron in formation, shielded by stones, Paladins and IT. See the gap before Ehjin? I forgot that Grave Guardians can Leap...
Overview of the situation in the end of the round.
Round two
Ehjin summoned two more IT, but Blood of the Abyss on one of the paladins failed. Azael summoned a Darkness Elemental and the Familiar is sacrificed to uphold some sort of control over the Elemental. At least it isn't going rabid on Azael but the enemies.
The Sentinel inflicts a light wound on one Paladin (the one who should get the Blood of the Abyss miracle).
On Grave Guardian jumped over the Paladins and attacked Ehjin. One of the Paladins joins the fight, the other is attacked by a Predator of Blood.
The Grave Guardian inflicts a light wound on the Paladin and a double six for Ehjin - but she manages also her Survival Instinct.
The Predator next to this fight hits the Paladin critical.
On the other side the Predator and the Grave Guardian are busy with a paladin, two IT and the Gravedigger.
The Grave Guardian killed a IT, got overexcited and went for the Gravedigger, but got killed and therefore the first Zombie was summoned.
The Guardian of the Runes and the Sacred Vestal both are fighting with IT.
Round three
Ehjin summoned Inferno on the Grave Guardian and get him critical. Possessed and Blood of the Abyss failed again, but one Paladin got STR+1.
Ehjin and the Paladin killed the second Grave Guardian, the Predator on the left killed an IT and get a Paladin critical.
The Guardian of the Runes summoned a Silvaen Animae to this latter Predator. Furthermore he hits the Zombie serious and the IT critical but he was also hit by the Zombie and got a critical wound.
The other Predator get both the Paladin and the Darkness Elemental a serious wound and stays unharmed.
The Vestal killes the IT.
Isakar runs forward to join the battle because Rom'ro isn't doing well with his cage. He just managed to reduce the cage by two structure points.
Round four
Ehjin summoned two IT and an Inferno and killed the Guardian of the Runes.
The Sentinel shot the Elemental critical while Isakar is attacked by an IT to buy some time for Dschu-lya so she tries to sneak to her loverboy. But Isakar kills the IT and will go for her next round.
The Predator kills the Elemental but does nothing to the Paladin.
The other Predator upgrades with the Animae and kills two IT and the Paladin and goes for Ehjin and kills her too.
Round five
Azael finally summons a Morbid Puppet and another Darkness Elemental before she gets charged by the Predator. The latter kills both her and the Marionette.
The Zombie tries to get forward but is shot by the Sentinel. Isakar rushes to Dschu-lya and tramples all over her.
The other Predator kills finally the Predator and inflicts a light wound on the Elemental.
Round six
Not much to do here...
Rom'ro just managed to reduce the structure points of his cage by 4 points.
Acheron is gone...
So, that didn't went well for the Undead. I totally forgot the Leap and left to much space between the Paladins and Ehjin so that the Grave Guardian could just jump over and attack. Furthermore I started quite behind in the field to give them more time to summon. The disadvantage of this is that they had no time to get to the mission subject once they have been engaged. Furthermore, while the summoning of the IT was no problem for Ehjin and the Darkness Elemental for Azael, the Morbid Puppets were quite difficult.
So for the future I'll give Azael the Black Spellbook so that she can summon the Puppets easier and also can take the Demonic Pest with her to give Ephemereal/4 or /5 to a lot of enemies.
The next episode will be a bit dreamlike, more like an interludium. With both of the lovers injured and defeated, an heirloom of Dschu-lya is activated, an old jewel of the Forest of Quithayran. With this a Dreamwarrior contacts them in a dream and guides them. Depending on the outcome of this little scenario, the next episode some Daikinee will help them.
